WHAT IS THE BEST CERTIFICATION FOR ORGANIC CLOTHING?
WHY CHOOSE GOTS-CERTIFIED CLOTHING?
The benefits for you and the planet:
The GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification is one of the most recognized and rigorous certifications in the sustainable fashion industry. It guarantees that a garment is made from organic fibers and that every step of production—from the cotton field to the final sewing of the garment—meets strict environmental and social standards.
This includes:
- Growing cotton without GMOs or chemical pesticides
- Processing without toxic substances
- Ethical working conditions throughout the supply chain
Producers, processing factories, and brands each receive a specific GOTS certification based on their role in the supply chain.

WHAT IS THE GOTS LABEL?
ECO-FRIENDLY CERTIFICATION FOR NATURAL TEXTILE FIBERS
The GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) label applies exclusively to natural fibers and covers the entire production chain—from cultivation to final manufacturing—by enforcing:
- Strict environmental criteria
- High social standards
- Health and animal welfare regulations
For example, animal fibers are prohibited if their production involves harmful practices toward animals.
THE TWO CATEGORIES OF GOTS CERTIFICATION:
"Made with Organic" and "Organic" – What's the difference?
- "Made with Organic": at least 70% organic fibers
- "Organic": at least 95% organic fibers, as is the case in the making of our clothing
LOW-IMPACT ENVIRONMENTAL PROCESSES:
In addition to regulating the percentage of organic fibers, GOTS enforces environmentally friendly production methods, ensuring:
- Durability
- Product traceability
- Safety
Substances Banned by GOTS:
The GOTS certification strictly prohibits the use of hazardous substances such as:
- Endocrine disruptors
- Carcinogens
- Toxic solvents
- Heavy metals
HOW TO VERIFY IF A PRODUCT IS TRULY GOTS-CERTIFIED?
Here are 2 simple tips to recognize a truly eco-responsible garment:
- Visit the official GOTS website and enter the manufacturer’s license number to confirm the certification.
- Check the GOTS logo on the label and make sure it is accompanied by the name or code of the certifying body, as well as the license number.

ORGANIC COTTON VS CONVENTIONAL COTTON:
| Criteria | Organic Cotton | Conventional Cotton |
|---|---|---|
| Fertilizers Used | Natural fertilizers | Chemical fertilizers |
| GMOs | GMOs strictly prohibited | GMOs frequently used |
| Water Consumption | Reduced thanks to natural and controlled irrigation | Very high water usage |
| Soil Impact | Promotes soil fertility and biodiversity | Depletes soil and harms biodiversity |
| Fabric Quality | Softer, more comfortable, and durable fibers | Variable quality; fabric may shrink after washing |
| Human Health | Lower risk for farmers and consumers due to absence of toxic chemicals | Contains chemical residues that may be toxic |
| Working Conditions | More ethical and regulated | Often unregulated, sometimes exploitative or harmful |
